Hong Kong Camps

In 1956, the Gideons International founded the Hong Kong Camp.  Since then, the Kowloon Camp, Taipo Camp, Shatin and Sai Kung Camp, Tuen Mun Camp, Hong Kong Island Camp and Yuen Long Camp have been added.  As of August 2014, the cumulative total scriptures distributed in Hong Kong were close to 2 million.

Funds for purchasing Scriptures

• Through personal contributions and bequests from Gideons,
• Through offerings taken at the time of reporting in churches locally and overseas, mail in donations and the Gideon Living Memorial Bible Plan.

Our beliefs are summed up in the following seven statements:

1. We believe in the eternal one and only true God, the Lord of the Universe, Father of Mankind, and He is God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Three Persons in One.

2. We believe Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God; He is God’s only begotten Son; He has all the divine nature that belongs to God, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary to be true Man. He died on the cross to redeem sinful man. He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where He sits at the right hand of God the Father as the Mediator of the New Testament, as the Head of the Church, and as the High Priest in heaven. He is now interceding for His followers in prayer. He shall reveal Himself in person, descending from heaven to re-establish His Kingdom in order to judge both the living and the dead.

3. We believe in the Holy Spirit at the Third Person of Trinity who descended upon the churches during the Pentecost to unit the followers of Christ in one Body, the Church; He causes people to know their sin; He regenerates in order that all Christians may become victorious and holy.

4. We believe that mankind was created in the image of God but fell into sin and has therefore lost his spiritual life and is deteriorated and fallen because of the power of sin. Man cannot enter God’s Kingdom if he will not be born again. We believe that shed blood of Jesus Christ provides ground for justification; only through saving faith and regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

5. We believe that both those who believe in Jesus and those who do not will be resurrected; believers to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, unbelievers to judgment and everlasting death in hell. We also believe that heaven and hell are real and everlasting.

6. We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and the complete revelation of God’s power, truth, and life.

7. We believe that the Evil One is a sinner from the beginning, is the ruler who controls this gloomy word, is the evil spirit who works in the rebellious heart, is the root of iniquity, and is the enemy of the righteous.

Do people ever read the Bibles in their hotel rooms?

Yes! Each Bible placed in a hotel room has the potential to reach up to 2,300 people in its estimated six-year life span. Research from the hotel industry tells us that approximately 25% of travelers read the Bibles in their hotel rooms.

Is The Gideons International a denomination or a church?

No. The Gideons International is an association that works with evangelical or Protestant churches. Our members come from many denominations, live all over the world, and share a desire to see the lost come to Christ.

What do Gideons believe?

The Gideons International is a diverse association in that our members come from many Protestant denominations with a common interest in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. All Gideons also hold important core beliefs:

• The Bible is the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God.
• The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.

Members must also:

• Have received Jesus as their personal Savior.
• Endeavor to follow Him in their daily lives.
• Be members in good standing in their Protestant/evangelical churches.
• Have the recommendation of their pastors.

Who is eligible to join The Gideons?

Generally, Christian businessmen and professional men age 21 and older (or retired businessmen and professional men) who adhere to the core spiritual beliefs held by Gideons are eligible to join The Gideons International. In addition to meeting our professional and spiritual qualifications, potential Gideons must also be recommended by their pastors.

Can I get Bibles or New Testaments for my church or my personal use?

Our mission is to reach the lost. We do not provide Bibles and New Testaments to individuals, our church partners, or other organizations for their distribution. Our unique method is to have only our members distribute Bibles or New Testaments through designated traffic lanes of life, thus efficiently reaching a large number of people.  We do not overlap, duplicate, or conflict with the mission of churches and other ministries. Instead, we act as an extended missionary arm of the church.
